Abstract

It is stressed that there is considerable scope and need to strengthen nuclei of existing research activities in developing countries making ground based measurements in support of space data. This can be an effective and practical method of strengthening space research in developing countries, build up needed human resource and thereby facilitate applications of remote sensing for national development and participation in ongoing international scientific programmes such as IGBP. It is pointed out that global conditions at present are favourable to mobilise international cooperation for such an initiative. It is also stressed that the present seminar must take initial steps to make such a thing to happen.
