Abstract

Carbonic anhydrase has been studied in the prostate and the kidney cortex of male rats of various ages. Highest specific activity for both the organs occurs in the immature. The activity decreases gradually in the kidney cortex with advancing age, whereas in the prostate there is no change after adulthood. The significance of these findings has been discussed in relation to the regulatory changes in the activity of the genome as a function of age.
