Abstract

The positron wave function and two-photon momentum density (TPMD) in Pd and PdH are calculated theoretically with the use of the augmented-plane-wave (APW) method. The results for the TPMD for Pd and PdH are compared. These results are used to calculate the one-dimensional (1D) angular correlation of positron annihilation radiation (ACPAR), N(pz), along the symmetry directions <100>, <110>, and <111> as well as for the spherically averaged case. Differences in the 1D-ACPAR curves (NPdH-NPd) are obtained theoretically and compared with the available experimental data for PdH0.72 and Pd. Such a comparison shows good agreement and indicates that the band-structure calculation using the APW method is successful in predicting the changes in the TPMD in going from Pd to PdHx.
