Abstract

We have studied the emission of projectilelike fragments from 16O+89Y and 12C+93Nb reactions forming the same compound nucleus 105Ag at the same excitation energy (EX=76 MeV) and with very similar spin distributions. A strong entrance channel dependence favoring breakup into the entrance channel with large excitation energy has been seen for 16O+89Y system, but not for 12C+93Nb system. In the case of 16O+93Nb reaction also, unexpectedly, large back-angle oxygen yield has been seen. The results indicate formation of orbiting complex for reactions between spherical nuclei such as 16O+89Y and 16O+93Nb at large orbital angular momentum near lcrit.
