Abstract

The isolation of two new flavones, wightin and echioidinin, from Andrographis wightiana Arn. ex. Nees is reported. By a combination of spectral, degradative and synthetic evidence, wightin is shown to be 5,3'-dihydroxy-7,8,2'-trimethoxyflavone. Wightin appears to be the first example of a naturally occurring flavone with an unique 2',3'-oxygenation pattern instead of the normal 3', 4'-pattern.
