Abstract

We report on the determination of the lower critical field (Hc1) of the newly discovered borocarbide superconductor YNi2B2C (YNBC). Our Hc1(T) data seem to fit to the relation Hc1(0) [1-(T/Tc)2] over a wide temperature range and they give Hc1(0) a value (22 mT) which is consistent with a recent analysis based on Ginzberg-Landau theory. A deviation from the said relationship is observed near Tc(0) and we show that it is a consequence of the intergranularity effect in a polycrystalline superconductor.
