Abstract

The band structure and Fermi surface of ferromagnetic nickel obtained by Hodges, Gold, and Stone is reexamined in the light of recent data of Stark on the large Γ-centered Fermi surface sp↑ and sp↓ sheets. The energy band structure, calculated by Hodges, Gold, and Stone using an interpolation scheme, fails to give good agreement with Stark's data. We present here results of a calculation on the basis of a modified interpolation scheme and we get good agreement with the experimental results on the large Γ-centered sheets as well as on the smaller Fermi-surface sheets. We report our calculations for extremal areas and band masses of various orbits, magneton number, and the density of states.
