Abstract

We analyse large pTJ/ψ production in the central rapidity region of nucleus-nucleus (AA) and proton-proton (pp) collisions, in the framework of perturbative QCD. The nuclear effects are assumed to come entirely from the structure functions. We find qualitative similarities with the expected signature of a quark-gluon plasma. The cross section for J/ψ production in AA collisions relative to that in pp collisions is suppressed more at small pT than at large pT. The Drell-Yan production of muon pairs, on the other hand, shows very little pT dependence.
