Abstract

We investigate the effect of a three-flavour quark-gluon plasma on the interaction of a heavy quark-antiquark pair. On a 123 × 4 lattice we use the pseudo-fermion method to simulate statistical QCD with aquark mass MA=0.1 and measure the correlation of thermal Wilson lines at various different temperatures. The colour screening length so obtained is at high temperature about 30% smaller than in pure SU(3) gauge theory. It is also found to decrease with temperature faster than expected from perturbation theory.
