Abstract

Acyclic octapeptides derived from aminomethylbenzoic acid or its pyridyl derivative and alanine self-assemble to form pores that preferentially transport cations over halides across the lipid bilayer. The aromatic units appear to line the channel and could potentially be used to introduce functional groups inside the pore.
