Abstract

An efficient method for allylic oxidation of cyclic and acyclic alkenes to the corresponding α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in good yields was described using catalytic amounts of chromia-pillared montmorillonite and equimolar quantities of tert-butyl hydroperoxide. This is also a convenient method for selective oxidative deprotection of allyl ethers and amines using same system. Incidentally this is the first heterogeneous system for the allylic oxidation as well as oxidative deprotection. This is the first report using heterogeneous catalyst, Cr-PILC and TBHP for the allylic oxidation of cyclic and acyclic alkenes to the corresponding α,β-unsaturated carbonnyl compounds and oxidative deprotection of allyl ethers and amines.
