Abstract

Aldehyde tosylhydrazones having an adjacent -isopropylidene group undergo a condensation-fragmentation process in the presence of alkyl magnesium and alkyllithium reagents to yield chiral allyl alcohols. Practical preparation of -(E)-allyl alcohols is described starting from aldehyde tosylhydrazones having adjacent --isopropylidene group.
