Abstract

Designer sheets: A three-stranded β-sheet is designed by strategic incorporation of β-amino acids with α-amino acids (see figure). In a β-hairpin the side-chains project away from each other, whereas in a three-stranded β-sheet the side-chains from the N-terminal strand and C-terminal strand are closer together thus facilitating long-range interactions.
