Abstract

Visualization of flow around the bodies in a hypersonic shock tunnel based on electrical discharge is described. The flowfields around a flat plate with a sharp and blunt leading edge and a slender cone with sharp nose cone in HST1 shock tunnel at Mach 5.75 are visualized using this technique. The results of these studies are presented here. This technique can be extended for three-dimensional flow visualization by appropriate arrangement of the electrodes and the camera position.
