Abstract

Dianions derived from 3,3'-dimethylazobenzene, 3,3'-dimethoxyazobenzene, 4-methylazobenzene, 4-methoxyazobenzene, 4,4'dimethylazobenzene, 4,4'-dimethoxyazobenzene, 4,4'-diisopropylazobenzene, 4,4'-ditert-butylazobenzene, 4,4'diphenylazobenzene and dibenzopyridazine were prepared by treatment with excess of lithium in tetrahydrofuran. Reaction of these dianions with chlorodiphenylmethylsilane gave disilylsubstituted hydrazines. The ultraviolet spectra of these silylhydrazines resemble that of hydrazobenzene.
