Abstract

Supramolecular metallic ensemble (3-Fe2+) has been developed which exhibited highly sensitive ‘on-on’ response towards creatinine in human blood serum with detection limit in picomolar range. The real time application of 3-Fe2+ ensemble for the detection of creatinine has been shown and the results are found to be comparable to Jaffe’s protocol. We also estimated the tentative cost of 10 mg of the probe which comes out to be 0.72 US Dollar (50.07 Indian rupees). Around 10 ml stock solution of probe 3 in DMSO [6 mg of probe + 1.5 ml Fe2+ (1 M)] is sufficient to detect creatinine in around 600 samples. The solution of derivative 3 in H2O: DMSO (6:4, v/v) containing Fe2+ ions is stable for several weeks at room temperature under lab conditions. Thus, the system being reported in this manuscript is cost effective.
