Abstract

The Mossbauer effect is used to study (CoxFe1-x)5Ge3, x= 0.0, 0.15, 0.3, and 0.45. The alloys possess partially filled Ni2As type crystal structures. It is found that cobalt prefers to occupy 2(a) sites. The lines of the component spectra are significantly broad. The increase in the concentration of cobalt reduces the hyperfine magnetic fields at 2(c) and 2(d) sites and the isomer shifts at all the sites. There is an appreciable increase in the quadrupole splitting of the paramagnetic spectrum of 2(d) sites with the increase in x.
