Abstract

An anthracene–naphthalenediimide donor–acceptor pair is assembled in a well-defined geometry, as a linker in a crystalline porous metal–organic framework (MOF). In response to the guest encapsulation/removal, the dynamic paddle-wheel node of the MOF undergoes reversible deformation and subsequently exhibits reversible electron transfer within the donor–acceptor pair.
