Abstract

The inelastic scattering of 49.5 MeV protons by 24Mg has been analysed using DWBA and SCA. A quadrupole deformation parameter of 0.49 was obtained from both SCA and DWBA when the nucleus was treated as a symmetrical rotator. When 24Mg was considered to be an asymmetric nucleus, deformation parameters β2 = 0.37 and β4 = 0.22 were obtained with the asymmetry parameter γ = 32°. The adjustment of simple optical-model parameters for use in coupled-channels analysis of a rotational nucleus is discussed.
