Abstract

There is increasing interest in materials that absorb and emit light in the far red (near IR) regions of the spectrum. A great deal of the solar radiation that strikes the earth is to the red of the visible and human tissue exhibits greater transparency at wavelengths greater than 700 nm wherein there is reduced absorbance by blood. New materials for medical and energy applications require an expanded design space afforded by new electronic building blocks.
