Abstract

The formation of a Pt(II) nanoscopic trigonal bipyramidal cage (TBP) containing a new tripodal linker with ester functionality is achieved by self-assembly. The new tripod ligand and the cage were characterized by multinuclear NMR and electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy. Energy minimized simulation of the cage yielded a pseudo TBP shape with an internal diameter of 2 nm.
