Abstract

Gabosine J and its two synthetic analogues were prepared by a chiral pool synthesis that started from D-mannitol. Gabosine J was synthesized in 14 steps in a 13 % overall yield. Preliminary biological investigations suggest that (–)-gabosine J inhibits α-mannosidase and its reduced forms, gabosinol J-α and gabosinol J-β, inhibit β-galactosidase and β-glucosidase, respectively.
