Abstract

This manuscript presents and validates a novel transformerless single-phase 5-level inverter with a complete DC bus utilization for PV applications. The proposed inverter employs a switched capacitor-based network with a T-type structure. The use of T-type structure enables the anticipated multilevel inverter (MLI) to provide constant terminal voltages (i.e. voltage difference between source terminals and load neutral). This makes the inverter free from any kind of leakage current and EMI issues. Moreover, the switched capacitor network ensures complete dc-bus utilization by boosting the PV voltage two times. A carrier-based level shifted pulse width modulation technique (LSPWM) is used to operate the inverter. Simulation result and experimental result are presented to validate the operation and performance of the proposed MLI.
