Abstract

In this paper, a C uk based single-stage, single-phase transformerless inverter topology is proposed for grid-connected PV applications with inherent buck-boost capability. The proposed topology is presented along with a dedicated proposed modulation scheme. Since the negative terminal of the PV source is directly connected to the neutral of the grid, the proposed transformerless topology incurs zero leakage current, making it highly suitable for grid-tied solar PV applications. Only one input inductor is used for both the positive and negative half cycles, which along with symmetrical operation helps in eliminating DC current injection into the grid. The topology has five switches, out of which, two switches operate at line frequency. Therefore, higher efficiency is achieved due to lower switching loss. The PWM control and operating modes of the inverter are presented along with the simulation results. The proposed topology is validated experimentally and those results also included in the paper.
