Abstract

This paper describes implementation of a controller for non-inverting buck-boost converter for low power photovoltaic (PV) applications using run-time partial reconfiguration of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Two-switch single inductor non-inverting buck-boost converter described in this paper uses lesser components and can operate either in buck or in boost mode or as a combination of these modes. FPGA is configured with buck controller logic when the input is higher than the required output voltage and with boost controller when it is lower and with combination of buck and boost when it is close to the output voltage. Implementation of functions only when it is required reduces the resources required and the power consumption. Key experimental results are included.
