Abstract

For several decades, there has been a persistent debate on the effects of electromagnetic fields on human health. In this context, electromagnetic emission from Video Display Units (VDU) is a major concern. However, no deterrents or compliance standards are in place to curb these emissions. Only a few, non-mandatory (but popular) compliances, such as the MPR II, are available which recommend guidelines for acceptable limits on VDU emissions as well as their measurements. This paper discusses the crux of the MPR II standard and proposes a simple, low cost, yet accurate measurement system for both electric field and magnetic field emissions. All the practical details are included. A case study is also presented to demonstrate the use of the developed measurement system for MPR II compliance.
