Abstract

Phenylenediguanidine derivatives of formula (I) have been synthesised to assess their antimalarial activity. The method consists in condensing phenylthiourea derivatives of formula (VI) with a series of isothiocyanates, to obtain the dithiourea derivatives (VII), the di-S-methyl derivatives of which reacted with ammonia to furnish the diguanidine derivatives (I). The other methods tried to prepare diguanidine derivatives are also described.
