Abstract

We have investigated the structural, magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in LaMnSbO0.8F0.2. The compound has the ZrCuSiAs-type structure with P4/nmm space group. For a field change of 0–5 T, the maximum entropy change (–ΔSM) is calculated to be 0.074 J kg−1 K by using the Maxwell's relations from the magnetic isotherms. The relative cooling power was increasing from 0.67 to 3.74 J kg−1 with the increases of magnetic field changes from 0–1 to 0–5 T. The observed reversible MCE is related to a second-order magnetic phase transition.
