Abstract

This paper deals with a windowing factor based control algorithm for a grid integrated SPV (Solar Photovoltaic) system. The proposed SPV system is able to handle the unpredictability of solar PV insolations and nonlinear loads at PCC (Point of Common). In its first stage, a DC-DC boost converter is used for extracting the maximum energy from the solar PV array. The boost converter is controlled by utilizing INC (Incremental Conductance) based MPPT control technique. In second stage, grid tied VSC (Voltage Source Converter) is controlled through the windowing factor based control algorithm. For an improved steady state and dynamic responses, a window based transfer function is utilized in the proposed control algorithm. Besides controlling the VSC, window functions are tuned to mitigate the certain level of harmonics current. The proposed topology is tested in laboratory under variable insolations and nonlinear loads. The varieties of results are demonstrated to validate the design and control of the SPV system.
