Abstract

The paper presents the simulated and experimental experiences on specially designed standalone asymmetric two winding single-phase self excited induction generator (SEIG). That projects some new and interesting results observed therein. The new facts about dynamics of different important operational parameters like THD in voltage and current, VAr requirement, slip, DPF, power with variations in the load or prime mover speed are presented in detail with the help of experimental and simulated results. The study on variations in THD in output voltage at varying system voltage, variations in THD in load current at varying loads and at varying prime mover speed, the study of relationship between system voltage and frequency and between system voltage and power under variable loading conditions, the study of relationship between system voltage and additional VAr requirement, the study of relationship between load current and output power, load current and system frequency, load current and system voltage under variable load resistance is presented in this paper. The study of variations in slip under varying prime mover speed, variations in additional VAr requirement under varying prime mover speed and relationship between prime mover speed and system voltage under varying prime mover speed at constant load is also discussed in this paper. The discussion and mathematical modeling of the relationship between various parameters may help in developing a better understanding about the single-phase SEIG based stand alone systems. The experiments presented in this paper are conducted on two different machines of 750 W and 5kW ratings respectively.
