Abstract

This paper presents a comparison among proportional-integral, variable structure voltage controller and energy balance controller for the control of single phase active filter. Proportional-integral (PI) and variable structure (VSC) voltage controller have been employed over DC bus voltage of the active filter. The energy balance controller is based on the estimation of the active power required by the load and active filter. A single phase IGBT based voltage source inverter (VSI) is used as an active filter. A hysteresis rule based carrierless current control is employed over active filter current, and derived signals are fed to the devices of AF. To present a clear comparison of PI, VSC and energy balance controller, a single phase nonlinear load of the same rating is selected for compensation.
