Abstract

This paper deals with an implementation of three-phase Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) using a NNRBF (Neural Network Based Radial Basis Function) control algorithm for power quality improvement. It is used for harmonics elimination, load balancing and reactive power compensation for PFC (Power Factor Correction) and ZVR (Zero Voltage Regulation) under linear/ nonlinear loads. The RBF based control algorithm is used for extraction of fundamental weighted value of active and reactive power components of load currents for estimation of reference supply currents. A prototype of DSTATCOM is developed using a DSP (Digital Signal Processor). Test results demonstrate the satisfactory performance of DSTATCOM with proposed control algorithm for compensation of nonlinear loads.
