Abstract

This paper presents a single-stage isolated bridgeless Full Bridge (FB) converter based Arc Welding Power Supply (AWPS). The proposed topology incorporates a bridgeless Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter using Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) operation of the boost rectifier and FB DC-DC converter to ensure unity power factor at input AC mains. The DCM operation substantially reduces the complexity of the control. The efficient control of AWPS facilitates fast dynamic response which enables to achieve high quality weld. Eliminating input side diode bridge rectifier reduces the number of components and minimizes the conduction losses. The analysis, design and simulation results of the isolated bridgeless converter based AWPS are presented and discussed in detail.
