Abstract

Different cluster–structure electron-counting rules to those of either boranes or metallaboranes of later transition metals are obeyed by the metallaboranes formed from the earlier transition metals. This principle is confirmed by the existence and structures of the homologous series of rhenaboranes [(Cp*Re)2BnHn], n=7–10 (see scheme).
