Abstract

A novel ultrasonic method for the preparation of a one-dimensional nanocrystalline β-In2S3 core within a protective carbon nanotube shell is reported. The nanorods thus synthesized were thermally stable up to 550 °C. They exhibited quantum confinement of excitonic transitions. Due to their stability at higher annealing temperatures, it was possible to remove optically active defects that were detrimental to photovoltaic applications. This versatile method may be used for synthesizing a variety of semiconducting nanorods with improved chemical and opto-electronic properties.
