Abstract

Culture filtrate (CF) proteins of a soil strain of Aspergillus fumigatus were evaluated for their potential use in the serodiagnosis of patients of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). Analytical fractionation of third-week culture filtrate (III WCF) and third-week mycelium (III W mat) by fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) indicated protein peaks in the molecular weight range of 180, 70, 43, 12 and 6.5 kDa. The III WCF proteins showed very strong precipitin reaction with the sera of ABPA patients by double immunodiffusion. The increased serum IgG and IgE levels (estimated by microtitre plate ELISA method) correlated well with the severity of the disease. The patients with strong precipitin reaction showed high serum IgG levels against A. fumigatus antigens.
