Abstract

Mn2(CO)10 photolysis with UV photons is studied through transient transmission in the 500 nm product band, conducted with 100 fs time resolution. Evolution of absorbance and its anisotropy probe continued coherent nuclear motion, leading to emergence of Mn2(CO)9 through the loss of CO, followed by carbonyl bridging between the metal atoms within a picosecond. A simplified MO scheme is presented to rationalize these results.
