Abstract

Complete combustion of dilute toluene (0.3 mol% toluene in air) and methyl ethyl ketone (0.4 mol% MEK in air) over transition metal (viz. Mn, Co, Cr, Fe and Ni)-doped ZrO2 (cubic) catalysts at different temperatures (470-750 K) and space velocity of 51 dm3 g-1 h-1 have been investigated for controlling the toluene and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) emissions. The catalysts are compared for their catalytic ignition temperature and activity in the combustion of toluene and MEK. The Co-doped ZrO2 and Cr-doped ZrO2 are highly promising catalysts for the combustion of toluene and MEK, respectively.
