Abstract

Sapphyrins with N2S3 core and rubyrins with N2S4 core containing five-membered thienyl- and furyl groups at meso positions have been synthesized and characterized. The spectral studies indicate that the meso-thienyl and meso-furyl groups alter the electronic properties of the sapphyrin and rubyrin compared to meso-tolyl groups and maximum effects were observed for meso-furyl sapphyrins and rubyrins.
