Abstract

Small angle neutron scattering from 0.1 M CTAB solution with varying concentrations (0.0 to 0.9 M) of KCl are reported. The data have been analyzed using a method that takes into account both the van der Waals and Coulomb interactions between the micelles. The observed changes in the SANS distributions are found to be mainly related to the changes in the relative strengths of the two types of interactions as the KCl concentration is increased. It is shown that CTAB micelles retain their size and shape up to a KCl concentration of 0.9 M.
