Abstract

Nusselt's classical theory on film condensation over vertical surfaces is extended to incorporate the effects of interfacial slip. The governing equations of mass, momentum and energy conservation in the liquid phase are solved analytically, so as to derive a closed form expression for the condensate film thickness and the local Nusselt number in terms of other relevant parameters. It is revealed that there is a substantial enhancement in Nusselt number as a consequence of an effective interfacial slip as compared to that in case of without slip (Nusselt's solution).
