Abstract

A gating technique is described to eliminate disturbance by scattered laser light from very weak luminescence light signals having a temporal evolution different from the exciting laser pulse itself. The signal can be extracted even if it is weak and in cases where adequate wavelength discrimination is not possible. The computer-based technique has been successfully used to study two-photon fluorescence signals in lanthanide crystals.
