Abstract
We have explicitly evaluated the phase distribution of a scattered wave function from a long segment of a one-dimensional disordered medium. We show that in general the phase distribution is not uniform. Only in the limiting case of a weak disorder we obtain a uniform phase distribution. The implication of this on the scaling theory of localization is pointed out.
